Ovens

Several oven systems for curing and drying coated thin films can be added to the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater platforms. With a minimum oven length of 230 mm, these compact systems are easy to add, remove, or replace quickly. This flexibility allows you to mount the appropriate oven system for your specific experiment or pilot run. Available options include hot-air, inert gas, UV-curing, and infrared (IR) curing ovens, as well as a combo oven that combines inert gas and IR. For UV and IR curing, we offer various power levels and interchangeable sources (hard UV, UVA, UVB, UVC, clear, ruby, gold) to match your experimental needs.

Mounting Systems

The high precision angular mounting system is ideal for mounting a slot-die head, a knife coating set-up or flexographic printing unit. The angle can be varied from 0 to 90 degrees (9 o’clock to 12 o’clock positions) which is very helpful during setup but also while coating. The simplest version has manual control over tilt and cross-web adjustments. Advanced versions include digital micrometer units and motorized cross-web axis and height adjustment with PC control.

The flexographic printing systems can be used for printing many types of materials on a wide variety of substrates. The air knife for the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater is a very powerful tool for rapid quenching of slot-die coated films with inert gas (important for i.e. perovskites). With the special air knife mount system, the angle and distance between the air knife and substrate can be changed very easily. The Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater comes with 60 mm diameter anodized aluminum rollers in its standard configuration. These rollers are crucial, as their mechanical and material properties often determine the success of your experiment. We ensure all rollers have exceptionally low runout. Our standard anodized aluminum rollers are durable and cost-efficient, suitable for 95% of applications. While they offer some electrical insulation, certain applications may require plastic rollers. For these cases, we provide rollers made from POM (available in black or white) or PEEK (for extreme chemical resistance). For applications needing extreme corrosion resistance, we offer stainless steel rollers.

Inspection Plate

When coating and printing on transparent substrates, having a light table for inspection immediately after the coating or printing head can be highly advantageous. This versatile inspection plate allows for visual inspection or the easy installation of a camera system. It can be added to the system when ordered or retrofitted at a later stage, as all units are prepared for the addition of the inspection plate. Fits the LR2RC750, LR2RC1000 and LR2RC1500.

 
Nip roller

Nip Rollers

Just before the rewinder, the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater has the possibility for a very flexible nip that is available in numerous configurations. The simplest has a full rubber roller with manual control of both nip pressure and tilt. Advanced versions include adjustable nip rollers, automation of nip engagement, nip pressure and pressure points. It can easily be used for very simple manual packaging of many devices with little work.

The Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater can be configured with two different spindle types:

  • The LR2RC500 comes equipped with adjustable cones allowing you to easily adjust the width, diameter and position of your core. Sometimes your source foil or material may be supplied on a special diameter and this solution is very flexible and accepts core inner diameters from 35 mm up to 90 mm.

  • The LR2RC750, LR2RC1000 and LR2RC1500 come with automatic compressed air spindles that accepts 3-inch core inner diameters.

Plasma Treatment

Plasma technology can be used for the pretreatment and cleaning of foil and substrate surfaces before further processing. Plasma treatment enhances adhesion and increases the wettability of coated materials, making it particularly valuable in processes such as the manufacturing of printed electronics and various biomedical applications.

  • Plasma Cleaning: Effectively removes surface contaminants like dust, grease, and organic residues.

  • Plasma Activation: Increases the surface energy of materials, improving adhesion and wettability for coatings, paints, and adhesives.
